Building a web site or a single web page is like cooking a meal, it can have a lot of ingredients - or not. Some include Java and Flash to enhance your web site by giving it motion and interactivity, templates to assist in building your web site and giving it a cohesive feeling.

A few things to gather together first before taking on the project:

  1. A list of 5 to 10 web sites that are your direct competition
  2. A list of 5 to 10 web sites that you think look real cool (can include parts of above list)
  3. 3 colors that you want to have on the site (not including black or white) and any colors you do not want
  4. 3 fonts that you like and want to use on the site (keep easy reading in mind)
  5. A copy of every picture you want on the site (in digital format)
  6. A copy of every article, or actually every word you want on the site

After you have gathered all this together, it is time to either start making the site yourself or take it to a pro. There are many levels of professional help, from simple consulting to full site design, hosting and maintenance (can cost $2,000+)

In the content of the web pages when you see things move, think money. The more motion you see, the more money that has been spent on it. If you want to charge people for things on your site, you will need a secure site to gather the info and can proceed with either sub contracting out the merchant work or doing it in house. The less work on your part of the transaction, the more it will cost you on the sale or in the setup. The basic rate is $75.00 an hour for any service that is performed. All expendables are cost plus 10%. I don't charge a per-page rate. On Advanced pages with flash or shockwave, Large sites or photo assignments a per project quote will be given.
